Labor Day weekend, Alex and I drove up with Ashley for our wedding venue tour and some down time in Rochester. While New York enjoyed some pleasantly mild weather, Rochester was cold. Oh well. That’s why we aren’t getting married in September in Rochester.
Saturday morning, we headed to our first appointment at Casa Larga Vineyards in Fairport, NY, just 10 minutes from Alex’s house. I was attracted to this place because of the vineyards. They looked beautiful in pictures and are beautiful in person. They didn’t disappoint. However, the rest of the place did. The function rooms were decorated in really unpleasant colors and had a pretty tacky feel. It was too bad. The events person was also very unenthusiastic and plain old unfriendly. We knew it wasn’t the one.
After our 30 minute speed appointment (you know it’s bad when you don’t have any questions after the tour) we were itching to see Oak Hill. We had 2.5 hours to kill, so we made a detour to Cornell’s Jewelers where we found out yellow gold CAN’T be made into white gold and Alex picked out some rings. We went back to Oak Hill for our 1 pm appointment where Natalka, the catering manager, was waiting for us. She immediately made a good impression on us- so different from the Casa Larga lady. Oak Hill is a country club in Pittsford, NY whose golf course has been used for all the major US golf tourneys. They are hosting the PGA there again in 2013. Woo, golf cred. So, Oak Hill is essentially a really beautiful country club, complete with tudor style club house, vines crawling up the side, and beautiful grounds covered in oaks. I could tell you ever detail of the appointment, but let’s just cut to the chase. We loved it. We’re getting married there. Here are some photos.
Boom. There you have it. Our venue. We didn’t even go to our appointments the next day because we figured why waste our time when we found something we loved. Here’s the catch. We don’t have a date, we have two! The only Saturday left in the summer is EITHER August 6 or August 13. One of those days will open up. So, we’re hoping for August 6, and if not, we’re also holding Friday, July 29. Keep your fingers crossed for August 6 though.
